BCCI Advised Ban on Chit Celebration IPL 2026
The ‘slip celebration’ witnessed multiple times so far in the 2026 IPL—has sparked controversy. Last Friday, Lucknow Super Giants fast bowler Akash Singh pulled a slip of paper out of his pocket after taking three wickets against the Chennai Super Kings. Inscribed on the slip were the words: “Akki on fire. Akash knows how to take wickets in T20s.” Following this celebration, several veteran players have raised objections to this ‘slip trend.
Several former cricketers have expressed their displeasure regarding this “slip celebration” trend. South African cricketing legend Dale Steyn voiced his dissent on social media, stating that this slip celebration should now be put to an end, as no one enjoys watching it.
Ambati Rayudu has also jumped into this debate. He remarked that the celebration performed by Akash Singh was foolish. Rayudu went so far as to suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should impose a ban on this “slip celebration.” It is noteworthy that in this season alone—Abhishek Sharma, Raghu Sharma, Urvil Patel, and now Akash Singh—have all celebrated by pulling a slip of paper out of their pockets.
Speaking on an ESPN Cricinfo show, Ambati Rayudu said: I believe that this ‘slip celebration’ is ridiculous and foolish. In my view, this celebration should be banned; it is absolute nonsense.
Former New Zealand cricketer Mitchell McClenaghan also echoed Ambati Rayudu’s sentiments, stating that Akash Singh’s celebration was baffling. He further noted that Akash possesses experience of only 11 IPL matches and was playing his first game of the 2026 season. According to McClenaghan, there was no need for Akash to celebrate in such a manner.
