IND vs ZIM T20I Series: Zimbabwe team has defeated Team India three times
IND vs ZIM T20 Series: Fourteen T20 International matches have been played between India and Zimbabwe so far. Zimbabwe has emerged victorious on three of these occasions. It would come as no surprise if the team were to pull off a similar feat this time as well.
India vs Zimbabwe T20 series dates
The T20 series between India and Zimbabwe is about to begin. The first match of this three-game series will be played in just a few hours—on July 23. Preparations are already underway. However, it is crucial to remember that Team India cannot afford to underestimate Zimbabwe under any circumstances.
Although Team India has defeated Zimbabwe many times in the past, there have been three occasions when Zimbabwe succeeded in beating the Indian team. Notably, the last time India suffered such a defeat, the team was being captained by Shubman Gill.
A total of 14 T20 matches have been played between India and Zimbabwe so far.
The series between India and Zimbabwe serves as a test for Team India, and specifically for captain Shreyas Iyer. The two teams have faced each other 14 times in T20 Internationals; Zimbabwe has won three of these matches, while Team India has won 11. Zimbabwe defeated Team India for the first time in 2015; that match was played in Harare, and the Indian team lost by 10 runs. Zimbabwe secured another victory in 2016, winning by a margin of just two runs.
Team India also suffered a defeat under the captaincy of Shubman Gill in 2024.
The tour of Zimbabwe took place shortly after Team India won the T20 World Cup under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Shubman Gill was appointed captain for that series. The team lost the very first match by 13 runs, snapping Team India’s winning streak. However, the team made a magnificent comeback, winning four matches to clinch the series.
Captain Shreyas Iyer is aiming to secure his first victory as captain.
The last time India and Zimbabwe faced each other was during the 2016 T20 World Cup, where India won by 72 runs. Now, a three-match series is set to take place, which will serve as a major test for Shreyas Iyer. Under Shreyas’s captaincy, Team India has played seven T20 matches so far but has failed to win a single one; they even suffered a crushing defeat against a team considered weaker, such as Ireland.
Given this, underestimating Zimbabwe would be a grave mistake. It would come as no surprise if that team—which has already secured three victories—were to win a fourth time. As previously mentioned, the matches will begin at 4:30 PM (IST); please keep this in mind so you don’t miss any of the action.
