India has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Ahmedabad will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. India was already leading the race to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Now, it has been confirmed. This will be India’s second Commonwealth Games. Previously, the 2010 Commonwealth Games were held in New Delhi. Indian athletes performed exceptionally well there, finishing second in the medal table.
Announcement made at the Commonwealth Games General Assembly

The Commonwealth Games General Assembly held in Glasgow awarded the Indian city of Ahmedabad the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, paving the way for the return of this multi-sport event to the country after two decades. Last month, the Commonwealth Sport Executive Board recommended Ahmedabad as the host of the 100th edition, after which the approval of India’s bid by the 74-member General Assembly was merely a formality.
Commonwealth Sport President Dr. Donald Rukare said that this marks the beginning of a new golden era for Commonwealth Sport. “After the ‘Games Reset,’ we are heading to Glasgow 2026 in great shape to welcome 74 Commonwealth teams, and then set our sights on Ahmedabad 2030 for a special centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games.”

15-17 sports to be included in Ahmedabad
In addition to confirming the 2030 host, Commonwealth Sport also clarified that Ahmedabad 2030 will feature 15 to 17 sports. So far, athletics and para-athletics, swimming and para-swimming, table tennis and para-table tennis, bowls and para-bowls, weightlifting and para-powerlifting, artistic gymnastics, netball, and boxing have been finalized. The process to finalize the rest of the program will begin next month. Sports being considered include archery, badminton, 3×3 basketball and 3×3 wheelchair basketball, beach volleyball, cricket T20, cycling, diving, hockey, judo, rhythmic gymnastics, rugby sevens, shooting, squash, triathlon and para-triathlon, and wrestling. The host can also propose two new or traditional sports.
